Our kids karate classes are designed for children aged 5 to 12. At this age, kids are developmentally ready to follow instructions, build coordination, and start developing discipline and focus through structured Kyokushin training. Our adults class welcomes anyone aged 13 and over, regardless of experience level.

For the first lesson, comfortable activewear is all you need — a t-shirt and tracksuit pants or shorts work perfectly. No special gear, shoes, or karate uniform (gi) is required for the free trial. Karate is practised barefoot, so no special footwear is needed. Once you decide to continue training, we'll help you get the right uniform.

Not at all. Most of our students start with zero martial arts experience. Sensei Vicki teaches students at all levels — from complete beginners to more advanced practitioners — within the same class. Everyone learns at their own pace in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Of course! Parents are welcome to stay and watch during classes. It's a great way to see your child's progress and understand what they're learning. Many parents enjoy seeing the discipline, focus and enjoyment their kids demonstrate during training.

Kyokushin means "the ultimate truth" and is one of the most respected and physically demanding styles of karate in the world. Founded by Sosai Mas Oyama, it emphasises full-contact training, practical self-defence, and strong character development alongside technical skill. Unlike some styles that focus primarily on forms or point-based sparring, Kyokushin builds genuine strength, discipline and resilience through challenging but rewarding training methods including sparring, kata, and rigorous conditioning.
-
Not at all. While Kyokushin is known for its intensity at higher levels, our kids classes are carefully structured to be age-appropriate, fun, and engaging. Sensei Vicki adapts training to each child's level, focusing on building confidence, coordination, and basic techniques in a safe and supportive environment. Parents consistently comment on how much their children enjoy the classes.
-
Yes. Kyokushin karate is fundamentally a practical martial art with real-world self-defence applications. Students learn striking, blocking, and movement techniques that build genuine capability. Just as importantly, they develop the confidence, awareness and composure that help avoid confrontation in the first place.

All classes are led by Sensei Vicki, a Sandan (3rd Dan) black belt with over 27 years of Kyokushin karate experience. She began training in 1997, earned her black belt in 2001, and has been the head instructor since 2014. Parents consistently praise her patient, firm-but-fair teaching style and her ability to make classes both disciplined and fun. Read Sensei Vicki's full bio →
